MGM are currently working on bringing back Robocop, but not to the big screen. They have teamed up with Dynamite Comics to develop a new original comic book series based on the Robocop franchise. This would mark the fourth time a comic company has acquired the rights to Robocop, the others being Marvel, Dark Horse and Avatar.

Dynamite Entertainment are making a name for themselves as producers of quality comic movie licenses – Army of Darkness, Zorro, The Lone Ranger, and the newly released Buck Rogers. Dynamite president Nick Barrucci has said that…
…what makes Robocop such an interesting canvas is that the series has always explored larger themes including gentrification, the media and human nature. All while delivering a riveting and visceral experience.
No writer or artist have been announced, but Dynamite plan…
…on bringing their full creative vision to bear, the series will continue to explore more of the dangers of Detroit, its citizens, and Officer Murphy’s continued dealings with the scum that stalks the streets – all the while missing his human side.
I’m looking forward to seeing what Dynamite do with the Robocop license, their titles Zorro, The Lone Ranger and Buck Rogers are outstanding examples of good comic book licenses and if Dynamite can bring that same quality to Robocop then it should make for excellent reading. What do you think?
