Fringe co-producer and writer Brad Caleb Kane has announced, via his Twitter account, that he will be writing a movie based on the popular View-Master toy. Kane is currently writing the script for the Wolfgang Petersen directed sci-fi action-adventure Uprising. Once finished he will take on the View-Master project for DreamWorks Pictures. Kane says the team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci (Fringe, Transformers 2, Star Trek) are behind the film and that it will be
like the old 80’s Amblin movies: Goonies, Young Sherlock… In that vein.
I am a big View-Master aficionado, I still have my original red viewer from the 80’s, along with a whole bunch of reels; so I’m very interested to see where Kane/Dreamworks plan to take the story. If they’re going for a Goonies style family adventure, then how about a bunch of kids on the hunt for hidden treasure, with the View-Master as a “key” to undercovering hidden clues..?
