In an incredibly quick update to the Green Lantern story from yesterday, it seems Warner Bros. and DC have finally settled on their Hal Jordan. It looks like Ryan Reynolds has been chosen for the role, beating out other contenders Jared Leto, Justin Timberlake and Bradley Cooper. According to this report over on THR, Reynolds and his camp entered negotiations for the part Friday. The studio had holding options on all the actors that screen tested for the role of the Green Lantern, but those options expired Monday, apart from Reynolds’ whose option would have expired end of day Friday.
If, and when, the deal is completed, it would make Reynolds the only male actor to have played heroes for both Marvel and DC (Halle Berry is the only female actor – as Storm in X-Men for Marvel, and as Catwoman in the film of the same name for DC). He has already worked for Marvel twice before, starring in Blade: Trinity as vampire hunter Hannibal King, and more recently in Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, where he played the character of Deadpool. Reynolds is still attached to the spin-off Deadpool movie that is in the works, how this deal would effect that it is not known at this time…

Hmmm. Don’t know how I feel about this news. He’s a charming leading man, I suppose, when he’s not playing a douchebag character like Van Wilder.
I guess it all comes down to what kind of GL story they’re going to tell. Hopefully something epically cosmic instead of a humble origin tale.
