Marvel are teaming up with renowned anime studio Madhouse to produce two new Marvel Japanese anime tv shows – Wolverine, and Iron Man. It’s not the first time Madhouse has collaborated with Marvel – they were previously responsible for doing the physical animation production on Hulk Vs Wolverine/Thor and the upcoming Planet Hulk, but it is the first time they have designed the look and style of the animation. And what a look, check out the bishounen-style Wolverine!
At the Marvel Animation panel at this year’s SDCC, it was revealed that legendary scribe Warren Ellis is scripting and developing the story for both the Wolverine and Iron Man shows. Ellis also revealed that Marvel and Madhouse are working on a fourth anime: Blade. A fourth you may ask? But what about the third? According to Ellis, the third anime being developed is based on the X-Men franchise, he also stated that both Iron Man and Wolverine are still in the early story stage, and that the trailers were created to get the style and feel of the production. In terms of story, he discussed how Iron Man would deal with clashing cultures and the development of Japanese military weapons…
If either of these anime-inspired productions are half as good as Anthony Johnston’s Wolverine manga then I’ll be very pleased. Here’s hoping!
