‘Friday the 13th’ now rated 15?

The original Friday the 13th, directed by Sean S Cunningham, is due for a UK Blu-ray release in time for Halloween. Interestingly the artwork for the Blu-ray that is currently being circulated by Warner Home Video shows a 15 certificate… It looks like the BBFC may have downgraded the classic Friday the 13th to 15 from it’s original 18 rating. The DVD was previously passed uncut as an 18 in 2003 but Friday the 13th Part 2 and 3 were both downgraded to 15 in 2008.

Nothing has appeared on the BBFC website as yet, but to add to the confusion the artwork on Amazon clearly shows an 18 certificate! Is this a case of extras bumping up the rating? Possibly.

Warner Home Video will release Friday the 13th on October 19th , priced £17.99 (RRP). Or you can pre-order the Blu-ray at Amazon right now (and help this site) for a mere £11.98.
