Tim Pocock was the actor that played the young Scott Summers / Cyclops in Fox’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, and he’s now revealed, via his twitter, that he will reprise the role in the next X-Men film -  X-Men: First Class – and that the film will begin shooting early next year:

Currently shooting Australian TV series till February 2010…then X-men first class ;)

The film is being writtten by Josh Schwartz, creator of such shows such as Chuck, The O.C. and Gossip Girl and Lauren Shuler Donner is producing, according to an interview she gave to Fox Movie Channel’s Life after Film School she hopes to make a franchise out of X-Men: First Class:

It is the first class of Xavier’s school, way back when, so it’s young Scott, young Jean, young Beast and that’ll be really fun,” Donner said. “I think (the plan) is to follow some of the characters into their own stories, and weave them back into the X-Men world. And hopefully First Class will become its own franchise and we can follow them as they grow up.

If Tim Pocock is reprising his role from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, then we can assume that First Class may follow directly on from that film, with Xavier rescuing the mutant children from the military base (as we saw in Wolverine) and taking them to his “school” to teach them.

Will combining the experience of Schuler Donner producing (as she has done on all the other X-Men movies) and Josh Schwartz’s successful “teen-orientated” writing, put X-Men: First Class on the fast-track to summer blockbuster? Who knows, just as long as they don’t hand over directorial duties to a hack like Fox tend to do…
