Are you bored of the same old TV shows? Tired of the mainstream? Then check out this round-up of alternative movies and series showing on UK television tonight…
Alt.TV returns! I bet you’ve missed this over the weekend haven’t you? Apologies but with the madness that was MCM Expo I didn’t find the time to provide you, my loyal readers, with the best in alternative entertainment. But now I’m back in the calm of BlogomaticHQ here’s my picks for tonight:
8.00pm FlashForward (Fiver)
Repeat of the fourth episode of the latest hot American import. The premise of the show is simple: everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes 17 seconds, during which each person has a vision of their future 6 months from now. Then the investigation begins… In this episode Olivia struggles to accept Bryce’s suggestion that a patient’s ‘flash forward’ holds the key to a correct diagnosis and treatment. Meanwhile, Demetri accuses Mark of not being proactive about his own future, while Mark feels Demetri is letting his fear of what he witnessed damage his life. Nicole returns to work as Mark and Olivia’s daughter’s babysitter, and reveals that her shocking vision of the future featured a murder.
9.00pm FlashForward (Five)
The UK premiere of the fifth episode of the latest hot American import. The premise of the show is simple: everyone in the world blacks out for 2 minutes 17 seconds, during which each person has a vision of their future 6 months from now. Then the investigation begins…In this episode, Mark is questioned about his flashforward during a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing. Elsewhere, Janis is forced to examine the future of her current romantic relationship.
10.00pm Spaced (Dave)
It’s back to the beginning of both this series and Simon Pegg’s career as Dave re-airs Spaced from the very first episode. Tim Bisley (Simon Pegg) and Daisy Steiner (Jessica Stevenson) meet each other in a cafe and are soon planning on moving in together. The only problem is the advert for the flat they’re planning on renting is for a professional couple only. Tim suggests they pretend to be a couple. They do this and are soon living in the flat below the Landlady and above the strange man in the basement. Series 1, episode 2.
11.00pm Mortal Kombat (ITV4)
Based on the popular video game of the same name, Mortal Kombat tells the story of an ancient tournament where the best of the best of different Realms fight each other. The goal – 10 wins to be able to legally invade the losing Realm. Outworld has so far collected 9 wins against Earthrealm, so it’s up to Lord Rayden (Christopher Lambert) and his fighters to stop Outworld from reaching the final victory…
11.10pm Bubba Ho-Tep (Sci-Fi Channel)
Based on the Bram Stoker Award nominee short story by cult author Joe R. Lansdale, Bubba Ho-tep tells the “true” story of what really did become of Elvis Presley. We find Elvis (Bruce Campbell) as an elderly resident in an East Texas rest home, who switched identities with an Elvis impersonator years before his “death”, then missed his chance to switch back. Elvis teams up with Jack (Ossie Davis), a fellow nursing home resident who thinks that he is actually President John F. Kennedy, and the two valiant old codgers sally forth to battle an evil Egyptian entity who has chosen their long-term care facility as his happy hunting grounds.
12.00am Monster Ark (Sky Movies SciFi & Horror)
Archaeologist Nicholas Zavaterro along with his grad students discover a vase with an ancient manuscript informing them of the whereabouts of Noah’s first ark that imprisoned a monster known as the darkness. Zavaterro, his grad students and his ex-wife/archaeologist head to Iraq to where it is. Along with some babysitting American Soldiers they discover the ark and find a crate which they obviously open and unleash the darkness.
