According to THR, Sony is officially ramping up production on a third installment of the popular sci-fi comedy franchise Men in Black. The studio has already hired a writer for the project and set a 2010 production date.

Sony has hired Etan Cohen, who was one of the guy’s behind this year’s comedy hit Tropic Thunder, to pen the script for Men In Black 3. The big question is will the original stars Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones reprise their roles?

According to the trade, Smith hasn’t committed to doing another film, but reports suggest he’s open to returning to the big-money franchise. However the involvement of Tommy Lee Jones is said to be “uncertain.”
