Chuck’s Zachary Levi has revealed that he turned down a role in Thor due to a scheduling conflict with the filming of the latest season of NBC’s popular series.
The 29-year-old told USA Today that he was cast as Fandral, one of Thor’s “Warriors Three”, in the forthcoming Marvel comic book adaptation. However, he had to walk away from the part when NBC ordered six more episodes of Chuck last month, following the pre-emptive cancallation of Southland and Chuck’s move to an earlier January launch.
I think Levi was the perfect choice for Fandral, just check out this description of the character from Wikipedia:
Fandral is a warrior of Asgard and an adventurer. He is an irrepressible swashbuckler and romantic. His bravery and optimism often puts the group in highly disadvantageous positions; as perennially pointed out by the gloomy Hogun. Fandral considers himself the consummate ladies’ man and is often depicted with a bevy of young ladies. His actual success with these ladies is intermittent at best, but as such provides numerous opportunities for humorous results. Despite these flaws, he possesses an excessively noble spirit and will do the right thing without thought to his personal safety or prosperity.
Definitely shades of similar character types, don’t you think? Marvel Studios begins production on Thor in mid-January, for a May 20th 2011 release.
