Collider are reporting that Marvel’s Thor adaptation has finally found it’s Warriors Three. Battling alongside Chris Hemsworth’s Thor will be Ray Stevenson (Rome, Punisher:Warzone), Tadanobu Asano (Ichi the Killer, Mongol), and Stuart Townsend (The League of Extraordinary Gentleman).
Thor follows the story of the eponymous Norse God banished to Earth for his arrogance and reckless behavior in the Asgard, the capital city of the Norse Gods. On Earth, he falls in love with a nurse named Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), but must become a true hero when his sinister brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) brings the darkest forces of Asgard to wreak destruction on humanity.
Apparently, Stevenson will take on the role of “Volstagg the Valiant”, Asano will be “Hogun the Grim”, and in place of Chuck’s Zachary Levi (who turned down the role of Fandral due to a scheduling conflict) Townsend will portray “Fandral the Dashing”.
I’m excited about he casting of Stevenson and Asano – both of whom have worked in comic based movies before (Punisher and Ichi) – they have both pulled off powerhouse performances in the past, Stevenson’s experience on Rome should stand him in very good stead for another “historical” epic, whilst Asano has yet to disappoint in any of his movies. But Townsend? Hopefully director Kenneth Branagh can pull a decent performance out of him, the last time he was in a comic book movie was the woeful The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen and don’t get me started on his acting in Queen of the Damned…
