It was waaaay back in July when news broke that Paramount Pictures and executive producer Joe (Hellboy) Roth had acquired Mattel’s Max Steel for another action figure movie franchise. Well now comes the news that Twilight: New Moon actor Taylor Lautner has signed on to star (how apt – plastic toy/plastic actor).
Max Steel centers on a 19-year-old extreme sports junkie recruited by a secret agency after an accident infects his body with nanobots, making him superhuman. Paramount is hoping to score another toy-based hit in the same vein that Hasbro’s Transformers has successfully made the leap to the big screen.
Currently there is no director attached, however Variety and the LA Times are reporting that Chad Damiani and JP Lavin are writing.
