Ever since the release of Ghostbusters 2 there has been talk of a third film in the Ghostbusters franchise, all of which has sadly come to nought, but this year it seems the momentum has been building – the actors are talking more about being interested in returning to their iconic roles, including Bill Murray who has long since held out on filming a Ghostbusters 3.
At a recent press chat for Avatar, Sigourney Weaver talked at length about a proposed story for the film, and now Harold Ramis, in an interview about his career, spoke to Heeb magazine about the current plans for Ghostbusters 3:
Something’s going to happen. Dan [Aykroyd] did write a spec Ghostbusters 3 screenplay a few years ago, but no one was motivated to pursue it. Now, 25 years after the original, there seems to be some willingness to proceed and apparently a substantial public appetite for a sequel. We’ll introduce some new young Ghostbusters, and all the old guys will be in it, too. Think Christopher Lloyd in Back to the Future… Ghostbusters 3 is progressing with plans to shoot next summer and release in 2011…
How firm these plans are remains to be seen, but with Ghostbusters 3 talk from Sigourney Weaver, Dan Ackroyd, Harold Ramis and Ivan Reitman (director of the original film) surely we are closer than ever to the final chapter in the Ghostbusters trilogy? We’ll have to see what 2010 brings…
