It was almost a month ago when rumours surfaced, courtesy of CHUD, that Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were in the running to script the big-screen adaptation of Marvel’s Deadpool. Well it turns out those rumours were true and the Deadpool movie is one step closer to becoming a reality.

Variety have today announced the Zombieland writing duo have officially been hired by Fox to pen the script for the Ryan Reynolds starrer, which to me seems to be an match made in heaven. On the one hand you have Ryan Reynolds, who has talked this movie up a storm – stating he really wants the film to follow the trademark Deadpool schtick and have the film break the fourth wall just like the comics. Then in come Rheese and Wernick, a writing duo whose last film, Zombieland, epically broke the fourth wall with the to-camera pieces from Columbus and the brilliant on-screen “Rules of Zombieland”.

Let’s just hope that Fox, who previously cocked the character up royally in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, can find a director who has a passion for comic books or is at least willing to not bow to ridiculous studio demands. With this news I can officially say I’m kinda excited to see the film now…
