Actor Stuart Townsend has departed the cast of Marvel’s Thor due to “creative differences” according to a report from the Associated Press. Townsend was cast as Fandral – one of the Warriors Three, after actor Zachary Levi turned down the role due to his commitments to NBC’s Chuck.
Townsend has been replaced by relatively unknown actor Joshua Dallas, who recently starred in The Descent Part 2. The last minute decision came just prior to shooting the film, which is set to start today. It is the second time Townsend has been replaced at the last minute, the first was on The Lord of the Rings trilogy, where he was cast as Aragorn but was replaced at the last minute by Viggo Mortensen – and we all know how that turned out for Mortensen…
Rumours are circulating, courtesy of AICN, that the reason Townsend was booted from the production was due to the actor turning up 6 hours late for a screen test!
Thor, starring Chris Hemsworth in the title role, is set for release on May 6th 2011.
