J.J. Abrams latest creation Undercovers, described as a mix between Mr. & Mrs. Smith and The Bourne Identity and revolves around spouses Samantha and Steven Bloom, a husband and wife spy team who are called back into action after years of retirement, has finally found it’s leading lady.
THR reports that after a lengthy search, British actress Gugu Mbatha-Raw has landed the female lead opposite Boris Kodjoe. Mbatha-Raw is an unknown in the States, having only previously appeared on UK television in series’ such as Spooks and Doctor Who. The actress is the latest in a long line of ‘discoveries’ by Abrams, who is known for finding fresh female talent for his shows – she joins the likes of Keri Russell, Jennifer Garner, Evangeline Lilly and, most recently, Anna Torv – all of whom have started out in Abrams TV shows…
Also, according to the same story on THR, it looks like Abrams has finally confirmed he will also direct, marking Undercovers as the first pilot he has helmed since Lost in 2004.
