We’ve been following the developments on J.J. Abrams new series Undercovers for a while now, in fact ever since it was first announced. The series, which Abrams co-wrote with Josh Reims, revolves around Steven and Samantha, a domesticated husband and wife who are re-activated as CIA agents after years of retirement.
So far we’ve had announcements that Boris Kodjoe and Gugu Mbatha-Raw have been cast in the roles of Steven and Samantha respectively, whilst Gerald McRaney was cast as their boss at the CIA. Now comes news, via The Hollywood Reporter, of two more castings that finally round of the cast of Undercovers.
THR report that comedic actor/writer Ben Schwartz has joined the cast. He will play a fellow CIA operative, who worships Steven’s career as an agent. Schwartz is a performer and writer at the Upright Citizen’s Brigade, who brought home an Emmy as part of the team that wrote Hugh Jackman’s opening monologue at last year’s Oscar ceremony. The final piece of the Undercovers puzzle is actress Jessica Parker Kennedy, who is all set to star as Samantha’s younger sister who works at a catering company. Parker Kennedy appeared on Smallville as Bette Sans Souci a.k.a. Plastique and was recently seen in ABC Family’s Santa Baby 2.
The Undercovers pilot is the first TV project to be directed by J.J. Abrams since Lost in 2004.
