I wouldn’t normally cover comedies directed by Shawn Levy here on Blogomatic3000, but Date Night looks like it could be really fun, unlike Levy’s other films The Pink Panther and Night at the Museum…
Shaken by the impending divorce of their good friends (not to mention their tendency to turn each other off during sex) Fey and Carrell’s characters decide to reignite their own spark by going out on a date…but not as themselves. What ensues is “a real case of mistaken identity, a mob effort to kill them and a Odyssean getaway through New York City’s nightscape.
Date Night stars Steve Carell, who, apart from Get Smart, has made some really funny movies, including the geek-tastic The 40 Year Old Virgin (was that film close to home for anyone else?). It also stars Tina Fey, who is the current queen of comedy, and geek-girl icon, thanks to 30 Rock and wrote a damn fine teen flick in Mean Girls. And – and this is what sparked my attention – does anyone else think that this film sounds eerily similar to the 80’s flicks Blind Date or After Hours?
We’ve been sent three new images from the film, which I’ve embedded below, along with a link to a rather funny clip:
Date Night is released in the US on April 9th and a week later in the UK on April 16th 2010.
