iPlayer update coming to PS3

Posted on June 25, 2010 in: Tech

After debuting on Sony’s Playstation 3 only last year, the BBC’s iPlayer is about to hit its third iteration later this year.

Features for iPlayer 3 include higher quality video streams, channel hopping during live coverage, links to other video on-demand services and cleaner navigation for categories. The BBC have also announced that a ‘For You’ recommendation feature will appear, and have confirmed (via TechRadar) that the improvements to the online streaming service will be coming to the console.

Product manager Simon Cross added that it will be a challenge to work out how to approach the new BBC iD functionality.

We don’t know whether to integrate it with the PSN signing in process or do something new.

There’s no news on whether the rumoured social networking integration with Facebook and Twitter will appear in this version.
