Dino De Laurentiis snaps up the rights to ‘The Sigma Force’

Martha and Dino De Laurentiis have snagged up film rights to the thriller series The Sigma Force, written by James Rollins.

Comprised of six books, the Sigma Force series involves a division of the U.S. Department of Defense’s DARPA (Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency) program housed beneath the Smithsonian in D.C. Staffed by a collection of “killer scientists” (adventurous scientists paired with military operatives), the Force investigates and secures threatenting scientific information through counterterrorism, research and covert ops.

THR report that the film adaptation will involve a new story line developed especially for this project with an eye toward creating a franchise. Says Dino De Laurentiis:

James Rollins is a master storyteller, the Sigma Force series is rich with complex characters and thrilling action plots, and we can’t wait to turn this treasure trove of amazing stories into a great film franchise.

The seventh book in the Sigma series, The Devil Colony, is scheduled for release in August.
