Craig Officially In for ‘The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo’

After nearly two months of rumors and speculation that Daniel Craig would star in David Fincher’s remake of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo, Deadline is reporting that the deal is officially done. Craig will play defamed journalist Mikael Blomkvist hired to solve a 40 year-old missing persons case based on the story written by Stieg Larsson.

According to Deadline’s report, Craig will begin shooting in Sweden, in the fall, after he wraps up with Jon Favreau’s ‘Cowboys and Aliens‘.

This news comes just after Sony put the first official word out on the film, slating it for a December 21st 2011 release and reassuring that the film would keep it’s hard-R rating from it’s Swedish predecessor.

This recent outpouring of news means the casting of Lisbeth Salander can’t be too far away. Carey Mulligan was rumored to be in talks but that never panned out. Nobody else has seemingly been legitimately considered by the studio, at least not publicly.
